MY HEALTH RIGHTS

Health care is a right

HIV Positive

There is no evidence that any alternative or complementary medical techniques can ‘cure’ HIV and I would advise patients to be very cautious about anyone whether doctor or layman who makes such claims – which I would consider to be unrealistic and misleading.
From time to time I am consulted by people who are HIV positive.
My focus in treating HIV+ patients involves:
Attempting to improve Quality of Life
A. Attempting to, as far as possible, reduce or eliminate recurrent infections such as coughs, colds and pneumonias which can make life so miserable for those who are HIV+. The main tols used here to boost the immune system is nutritional medicine, homoeopathy and also advanced acupuncture techniques which are used preventively especially going into the Autumn of each year to prevent autumn and winter respiratory tract infections.B. Improving the digestive processes with the two-fold aim of: first improving the person’s sense of well-being which should occur when the patient’s stomach and bowel is behaving itself and second better mineral , vitamin and protein absorption should contribute to improved immune system function.
C. Improving energy, sleep and the general sense of well-being which would involve, as well as dealing with the above, dealing with energy-drops, fuzzy-headedness and concentration problems.
D. Using mind-body acupuncture along with homoeopathy to help patients deal with any outstanding emotional issues related to their illness or to any other significant life events.
Irish patients who are HIV+ as a consequence of having blood products administered to them will usually have fees for consultation and treatment with me reimbursed to them by the Department of Health. I would suggest though that people first check with their support organisation or the Department of Health.
Lastly: for goodness sakes stay under the care of and your Infectious Diseases consultant and your GP and be guided by them in terms of overall treatment.
