Sluggish Liver Detoxifiation

The Liver acts as a biochemical barrier – a kind of sewage processing plant that
‘cleanses’ everything which is absorbed from the bowel into the circulation.
Hepatic / Liver Detoxification
The liver is a very important organ of detoxification. It breaks down and prepares for excretion any toxic by-products of metabolism. These include things such as red blood cells that have passed their ‘best-before” date, hormone moleucles that are no longer useful and also any toxins which we may have unwittingly ingested by mouth or breathed in.The liver also has an important job as a barrier preventing the absorption of toxins from the bowel. It could be compared to a sewage treatment plant. It creates a barrier between two distinct divisions of the circulatory system: the blood in the portal or bowel circulation is segregated form the blood in the systemic circulation (which includes the blood circulating to the heart, lungs and brain. The liver ‘cleanses’ or detoxifies the blood containing material which has recently been absorbed from the bowel via the blood vessels in the bowel wall to minimise the amount of toxic compounds reaching key organs such as the heart and brain thereby attempting to protect these organs from toxins that may arise in the bowel.
The effect of pesticides on the liver and liver detoxification processes.
Pesticides and chemicals may overload the liver’s ability to detoxify and, also, if there are bacterial toxins being produced in the bowel this will put an additional stress on the liver in that it will have to attempt to biochemically detoxify these also.
